Frequently asked questions about Harnesses
There are four main types of harnesses:
- Chest harness β Straps around the chest and over the shoulders. The most commonly worn type, either under clothing or on its own
- Hip harness β Straps around the hips and upper thighs. Often combined with lingerie. Some models have attachment points for a strap-on dildo
- Full-body harness β A construction connecting chest, waist, and hips, sometimes extending to the legs. Provides the greatest sense of restraint
- Head harness β Straps around the head, sometimes with a built-in ball gag, blindfold, or mouthpiece
Harnesses are available in versions for all genders and body shapes.
A well-fitting harness is comfortable and safe:
- Measure yourself β Take your chest, waist, and hip measurements and compare with the manufacturer's size chart. Sizes vary significantly between brands
- Adjustability β Choose a harness with multiple adjustable buckles or rings for a precise fit
- Try it on β A harness should fit firmly without pinching. You should be able to slide two fingers under each strap
- Elastic vs. rigid materials β Elastic harnesses are more forgiving in size and more comfortable for extended wear. Leather harnesses are stiffer but provide a sleeker look
When in doubt between two sizes, choose the larger and adjust it tighter.
Never use a harness for suspension unless it is specifically certified for this purpose. Decorative and erotic harnesses are not designed to bear full body weight.
The risks of suspension with a non-certified harness:
- Breakage of buckles, rings, or straps under weight, resulting in a fall
- Nerve damage from incorrect pressure points β particularly in the armpits and groin where nerves can become compressed
- Circulation problems from straps pulling too tight under weight
Suspension bondage requires specially certified equipment, thorough knowledge of anatomy, and an experienced partner.
Maintenance depends on the material:
Genuine leather:
- Clean after use with a damp cloth
- Treat regularly with leather conditioner to keep the leather supple
- Allow wet leather to dry slowly at room temperature β never on a heater or in direct sunlight
- Store hanging or flat, never folded
Faux leather and PU leather:
- Clean with a damp cloth and mild soap
- No special conditioner needed
- Avoid prolonged exposure to heat
Elastic/nylon:
- Hand wash with lukewarm water and mild soap
- Air dry. Do not machine wash or tumble dry
For all materials, regularly inspect buckles, rings, and stitching for wear.
